Ned Garver, 20-Game Winner for the 102-Loss Browns, Dies at 91

Over the course of his career he was a good pitcher for bad teams. In 1951 he was a brilliant pitcher for an awful team. The team was 21-12 in his 33 appearances, but 31-90 when other hurlers toed the slab. The guy who finished second on the team in innings pitched won a whopping six games, while losing 14.

It did not hurt his cause that he was also the best hitter on the team. He posted a solid .786 OPS and a .305 batting average. The highest regular was his catcher Sherm Lollar with a .747 OPS`. The team's regular shortstop finished the season with a .179 batting average and no homers. The most interesting player on the team was 3'7". Such was life on the St. Louis Browns.
