A tall tale? Accuracy of Trump's new height questioned.

A tall tale? Accuracy of Trump's new height questioned.

He needed to be that height in order not to be officially "obese," according to BMI standards. I'm assuming they weighed him but never actually measured him. He is obviously not 6'3". Look at the picture of him standing next to A-Rod, who actually is 6'3".

Despite my kidding yesterday, Trump may really be 239. He may just look fatter because he's basically a gelatinous blob. And if his height is 6'1", 239 is believable. At 6'1", 228 is obese. At 6'3' one needs to reach 241 to qualify for that elite status. (240 just misses, at a BMI of 29.998. "Obese" is 30 or more.) So padding his height by two inches gave him another 13 pounds to work with.

  1. There was a recent picture of Trump standing next to a couple of people I work with. One guy who was about the same height is 6'1", and another who was 6'4" clearly towered over him.

  2. I'm 6'4" and 20 pounds overweight at 245. Trump is much rounder than me. I'd place him at 275-285.

    1. Could be. That would have been my guess as well, but it doesn't seem to me that the naval doctor would lie, and he's a career guy, not a political flunky. My son is also in the navy, and has also worked out of Bethesda. He and his colleagues seem like pretty straight-laced, no-nonsense professionals. My son is in the dental corps (he's a dental pathologist), but I don't think the medical corps would be different.

But maybe they just asked him his height and weight, then wrote down what he said??

      Dunno.

And again, if he's really only 6'1, three inches shorter than you, maybe 239 is reasonable. That would give him a BMI of 31.5, which is equivalent to 259 at 6'4" - which would make him rounder than you, and would be getting close to your estimate.

      Or not.

Who knows what to believe with these guys?

    2. I seriously doubt that during a physical they just took Trumps answer for his weight and height. That certainly isn't standard practice with any doctor I've ever visited for even a non-physical visit.

I'm going with the answers the doctor provided - like you noted he is a career guy, not a political appointment. Different people carry their weight differently. I would have guess Trump's weight to be higher, but in the end, it really isn't a national crisis.

    3. I'd be willing to buy into the weight, but the height is obviously wrong.

    1. If only he was one pound heavier. Then he could use that argument.
