Depressing, self-important documentarian complains about the only thing in the Oscar ceremony worth watching
Couldn't agree more. Let's strip the ceremony of all entertainment value and ribbing so it can be four hours of mutual Hollywood masturbation.

The guy doesn't seem to realize that Seinfeld was making a serious point with his comedy - that the only way to get a documentary into the Oscar race is to make it dire and depressing. Seinfeld said it in a lot sweeter way than I would have. I would have pointed out we were going to look at a bunch of nominees for the second-best documentary of the year, because the best-reviewed documentary of the year wasn't nominated - apparently because it was too much fun!

Note the Golden Tomato Awards. The best documentary was Wordplay, the one about crossword puzzles, and it got 95% good reviews, compared to 92% for the Oscar winner, An Inconvenient Truth!!) And that was reviewed by just about every major critic. So how could such a masterpiece not be nominated. Oh, I don't know, could it be because it wasn't depressing? Seinfeld's remark was right on target.
