Election Center 2008: Primary Results for Iowa
Dems: The raw "state delegate" counts are misleading in terms of the actual impact on the nomination process. They represent psychological milestones, not real nominating power. There are 45 convention delegates tied to the caucus results in Iowa, and it was basically a three-way tie according to CNN estimates: Obama got 16, Clinton 15, Edwards 14.

In terms of the raw support coming into the caucauses, as estimated by entrance polls, Obama had 34-35%, Clinton 27%, Edwards 21-23%. (First number per Fox, second CNN).

So Edwards finished third in terms of the number of people who supported him, and he finished third in terms of the actual actionable results. He did, however, finish second in the column which doesn't actually mean anything at all. That, naturally, is what the MSM reported!

GOP: There were 37 delegates at stake. Huckabee took 17, Romney 12, Thompson and McCain three each. (The Chosen One got two! That's two more than Giuliani.)

  1. Clinton came in third, and she got more than twice as many votes as Huckabee -- not sure what this means for the repubs, but it ain't good.

  2. Three way tie? Clinton in second? Um, no. Get your facts straight, Scoop.

  3. You're the only web site I know that is reporting this with Hillary in second (based on delegate) rather than third--and way behind Obama--based on actual votes.

  4. Huh? Straight new sites have reported the raw vote count. I reported the delegate count. There were 45 at stake. It was virtually a three way tie, with the delegates split: Obama 16, Clinton 15, Edwards 14. Those are the facts.

  5. Oh, I should not that the Dems don't report "actual votes," although the GOP does.
