(Governor) Mike Huckabee congratulates Canada on preserving its national igloo.

Huckabee has a good sense of humor and it's obvious that he was just playing along with the joke. I would have done precisely the same thing in his circumstance.

The strange thing is that the announcer, who makes his living with irony, doesn't seem to recognize it when he sees it!

The stranger thing is that the left-wing blogs seem to think that Huckabee actually believed that Canada has a national igloo. Wow! Hard to believe. I'm no fan of Huckleberry, but it couldn't be more obvious that he was playing along. Here's Huckabee saying, in the same spirit, that Americans fear stairs.

And here's Huckabee saying he's just as sincere as Colbert.

And here's Huckabee saying that doorknobs taste great when deep fried.

  1. Huckabee can be funny, but I’m not so sure about the igloo bit. From this article:

"He wasn't in on it," Mercer says. "The governor of Arkansas thought there was a Canadian national igloo. The governor of Arkansas would have believed the world was flat."

...Mercer remembers that Huckabee first asked whether this was a controversial igloo in Canada.

"He had at least a glimmer of political acumen," he says.

    Ouch!

  2. That doesn't demonstrate that Huckabee is dumb. If you read what you wrote, you'll see that it is evidence that Rick Mercer is dumb! They say you can't bullshit a bullshitter, but that ain't so. Bullshitters are the easiest guys to bullshit because they have enormous egos which don't permit any challenge to their preconceived world-view.

Huckabee was just using the same old straight-faced irony he always uses.

As I said, in Huckabee's place I would have said the exact same thing, and would have tried to sound as sincere as possible. I don't reckon that makes me dumb.

  3. So...what you're saying is Huckabee outmaneuvered Mercer by purposely playing into his hand?

Ok, I get it now... You're trying to sHuck & jive me, aren't you? Well, let me just tell ya -- starting today, this sucker's not for the huckering!

  4. I think I am repeating this for the third time, but here goes:

    1) I would have done the exact same thing Huckabee did.

    2) I don't think Canada has a national igloo.

    3) Therefore, I can't see any reason to think he believes so.

Based on his talk show appearances, he and I have just about the same sense of humor.
