He is only the sixth pitcher in the last 50 years to win his first eight starts and keep his ERA under 2.50.

There are some great pitchers in that group like Valenzuela in his prime (8-0 with a 0.50 ERA), or Pedro Martinez (8-0, 1.17), but the most interesting name on the list is Roger Moret of the 1973 Rex Sox. He was a spot starter who made only 15 starts that season, and went 13-2. Two years later, he made sixteen starts and went 14-3. He led the league in winning percentage both times, and did all of that before the age of 25. So, with a spot of 27-5 in those two seasons, his future must have been unlimited, right? Er ... didja ever hear of him? If you did, it was because he blew games three and seven of the hard-fought and memorable 1975 World Series, allowing the game-winning hit to Joe Morgan in game three, then allowing a game-tying hit to Pete Rose in game seven.

The Sox traded him to Atlanta in the off-season after that World Series.

Mind you, the guy had just turned 25 at that point, but in the rest of his career he amassed only six wins, thanks to arm troubles and ... well ... let's just say that Bar Stool Sports picked him for their all-insane team.
