ESPN - Rockies vs. Padres - Box Score - May 10, 2008

Mad Dog wins #350

He was on top of it, allowing only three singles (no walks, natch) in six innings. His only lapse was his own rare fielding blunder, which led to a Colorado run in the sixth. He allowed Taveras to reach third on a dribbler to the mound by throwing the ball into the Rockies' bullpen in right field. Taveras scored on a subsequent ground out.

Maddux is right handed. If he were a lefty, he would be closing in on the all-time record for wins (Spahn 363). That's pretty impressive when you think about it. He will probably retire with more wins than any left-hander in all of baseball history.

He will probably retire as #5 among right-handers. If he can get to 362, he will trail only Young, Johnson, Mathewson and Alexander. (I assume Clemens is finally retired, but who knows?) Of those four, Alexander was the last to retire, and he did so in 1930, nearly 80 years ago. Spahn is the winningest pitcher to retire after 1930, and Maddux needs only 14 to pass him, although right now he is in third place, behind Spahn and Clemens (354).
