Jon Stewart to Sarah Palin: Fuck You

A lot of hypocrisy here from Jon. He takes Palin to task for being divisive, then acts far more divisive himself. (Or maybe "fuck you" is his idea of rapprochement.) Every time he's been caught in this sort of contradiction, he has hidden behind his comic license. "It's not OK for influential leaders, but it's OK for me, because I'm just a humble comedian." That's a kind of aw-shucksy false modesty that Palin herself would be proud of. Jon is a highly influential public figure, more influential than some national politicians, possibly more influential than Palin in the long run, since she may well be a Trivial Pursuit answer in a couple of years. If she loses, she'll be able to do American Express commercials like William E. Miller.

Plus, let's face it, saying "fuck you" is a cheap way to get laughs. Just about any brain-dead idiot can get laughs that way without ever thinking of anything clever - Carrot Top, Rob Corddry, even Carson Daly.

OK, maybe not Daly.

C'mon, admit it, you either didn't remember William Miller or vaguely remembered. He was the Republican VP nominee in 1964
