The new films could not overcome real Steel, although Footloose took it to a photo finish which may produce a different result when the final numbers are certified.
Those two films finished with a respectable $16 million. The Thing was in third place, but far behind with $8m.
The Big Year was an utter bomb with $3 million in 2150 theaters, in a distant ninth place behind six carry-overs including Courageous, which was in about half as many theaters!
