Paranormal 3 is now the highest-grossing October film in history, and it was created with a production budget of only $5 million. It will finish with a gross 20-30 times its production budget.
In stark contrast, the 3-D Musketeers checked in with a gross of $9 million, which was only good enough for fourth place. That one had a reported budget of $75 million, so it will finish with a gross about equal to 40% of its production budget.
That one seemed like Avatar compared to Johnny English Reborn, which limped into eighth place with about $4 million. The reported production budget on that was $45 million, so the film will probably finish with a gross about 25% of the production budget.
Investing $45 million (plus advertising and distribution) on a Johnny English sequel is God's way of telling you that you have too much money.
