In addition to the Kentucky victory, there were some other noteworthy occurrences:
10th-seeded Stanford is in the Sweet Sixteen by virtue of their impressive upset victory over a strong Kansas squad. The Stanford victory means that either a 10 or 11 seed must make the Elite Eight, because Stanford (the 10) will go on to play Dayton (11) in the Sweet 16 round.
I wouldn't call the victory of 6th-seeded Baylor over 3rd-seeded Creighton an upset. They did, after all, win by 30, and the game was essentially over within a few minutes.
11th-seeded Tennessee is in the Sweet Sixteen, but that was no upset. They defeated Mercer, a team with a lower seed.
The only other remaining double-digit seed will have a tough go of it. Tennessee (11) will have to get past Michigan.
Games to watch next week:
Intrastate rivals UK and Louisville square off in the Sweet 16. UK is only a #8 seed, but has just defeated Wichita and nearly defeated powerful Florida in a 61-60 squeaker a week ago. Not only is Kentucky is a very strong #8 seed, but Louisville itself is too strong to be a #4 seed. Combine those facts with the regional rivalry, and you can guess that one will be a war.
Michigan State and Virginia square off in the 1-4 game. Although Michigan State is technically the 4 in that pairing, they are the early betting favorite.
