I know what you are thinking. "If I go to California, how far away am I allowed to wander from my pants." I don't know that, but I do know this guy was arrested and "the deputy and ranger found his pants about 75 feet away in a tree."
So 75 feet is too far.
By the way:
"Kipniss was booked on suspicion of public nudity"
Suspicion?
Reminds me of a story. I once got stopped by the police for hitchhiking through Utica, New York. The police officer told me and my friend that police dispatch had told him to check out two "suspicious-looking characters," but since he didn't actually see us do anything "suspicious," he could only book us on suspicion.
Yes, that's right. We were to be booked on suspicion of being suspicious.
By the way, I was dressed approximately like Thurston Howell III, except without the yachting cap. Your typical suspicious criminal attire.
Actually, we weren't booked. The officer's superior came by (boy, the crime biz must be slow in Utica for us to earn two cars), the higher-ranking guy called his subordinate aside and, the next thing we knew, we were told to walk out of Oneida County to the Herkimer County line, where we were out of their jurisdiction. We did so and then resumed hitchhiking just over the boundary line.
