New Movies In Theaters August 8th - Rotten Tomatoes

New Movies In Theaters August 8th - Rotten Tomatoes
There are four skin-free films in 2000 or more theaters, and a James Cameron 3D underwater adventure on some 300 screens. Based on the reviews you should see what's new on Netflix.

Ninja Turtles (PG-13, 3845 theaters, 17% positive reviews). The origin of the newly rebooted teenage mutant turtles - plus Megan Fox and Johnny Knoxville. What more could you ask for? I suppose Will Arnett might add some humor to the presumably exiguous value of the remaining characters.

Into The Storm (PG-13, 3434 theaters, 11% positive reviews). One town is struck with several tornadoes in short order. One reviewer called it "Sharknado without the jokes."

Step Up: All In (PG-13, 2072 theaters, 50% positive reviews). A dance-off. One reviewer summarized: "The film ends up coming across like a version of America's Got Talent without the dancing dogs, juggling infants and bird impressionists that make the show worth watching."

The Hundred-Foot Journey (PG, 2023 theaters, 59% positive reviews). A heart-warming movie about Indian food, co-starring Helen Mirren. My heart is beating uncontrollably at the very thought.

James Cameron's Deepsea Challenge 3D (documentary, PG, 304 theaters, 42% positive reviews). The filmmaker makes a solo dive into the Mariana Trench. SPOILER ALERT: He did not die.
Box office:

The Turtles should go neck-and-neck with Guardians of the Galaxy in the race for the roses. They should both gross in the low 40s, but The Turtles could slip lower if word-of-mouth is exceptionally bad.

Into The Storm will finish a distant third, grossing somewhere in the mid teens.

Step Up and The Hundred Foot Journey will finish somewhere between fourth and eighth, with grosses in low double or high single figures.

James Cameron ain't gonna do jack. Seriously, I don't know how much potential this National Geographic film has, but it can't be all that much. It should finish out of the top ten, despite 3D prices.
