There will be three new national releases this week:
Get Hard is a comedy about a wimpy guy preparing himself to toughen up for prison, starring Will Ferrell and the ubiquitous Kevin Hart. (3150 theaters; 41% positive reviews; rated R for every conceivable reason, including nudity from some strippers and some booty cheeks from Alison Brie.)
Home is an animated kiddie flick about a misfit from another planet. (Rated PG; 3600 theaters; 39% positive reviews.)
It Follows is a highly acclaimed horror film. (94% positive reviews; 1200 theaters; plenty of female nudity including full-frontal, but not from the stars)
Get Hard, despite what critics call a lazy script, is expected to take in about $30M this weekend on the strength of its likeable stars.
Home is expected to take in a similar amount, maybe a hair less. The two of them will battle Cinderella and Insurgent for the weekend championship.
It Follows will probably be in a large group of films in the $2-3 million range. It might manage to finish fifth, after the Big Four mentioned above.
