True story: when I was about eight they opened a new high school in my town and decided to let the kids name it ... at least until they voted to call it Elvis Presley High. Looking back on it now, that name doesn't seem totally unacceptable, but in those days Elvis was so controversial that the Ed Sullivan producers had to film him from the waist up, and the fifties were a puritanical time, so the vote was overridden by the high sheriffs of school naming, whoever they may have been.
