Controversy deepened yesterday about the decision to allow a new film depicting real sex to be screened uncut in British cinemas. The film is "9 Songs" by British director Michael Winterbottom. It was passed for distribution without cuts to scenes showing authentic acts of penetration, masturbation and oral sex. All in all, it features 35 minutes of unsimulated sex.
- The director agreed the film was the most sexually explicit to be made in mainstream British cinema, but added: "There's not an awful lot of competition". Amen to that.
