What we're seeing here is basic demographic defined behaviour of the executive class.
As the current cohort (that massively huge one - rhymes with "may be tumors") get ready for retirement, they're not looking for high risk investments with massive returns, but instead safe bets with moderate returns. For the foreseeable future, expect lots of remakes with minimal deviations from the original storyline starring "A" list actors.
In the rare case where something innovative manages to get funding and marketing and makes a profit, it will be copied ad nauseum until it ceases to be a good investment.
I expect to see about twenty clones of Wedding Crashers approved in the next ten minutes or so. I expect that Vince Vaughn and his colorful band of sidekicks (the Wilsons, Stiller, and Ferrell) will soon be very busy and very rich boys.
Not that there's anything wrong with that. Better them than Andy Dick.
