If you really want to make this concept work, here's how: hire John Travolta, and make the storyline about Barbarino's return - as a teacher. That would follow the original Kotter premise. (Kotter himself was a former troublemaker returning as a teacher.) Gabe Kaplan could do a cameo as a retired Kotter.

I won't guarantee that I would buy a ticket for that, but you'd at least have my attention.
