Is the Internet dumbing us down?

I doubt that it is dumbing us down, but the internet is probably contributing to the increasing polarization of America. If you look at the stats for the past fifteen years, you'll see that people who used to get their news from the TV networks and newspapers are now getting it from cable TV, talk radio, and the internet. What that means to me is that more and more people are getting the news pre-filtered through strong right and left opinions rather than through organizations that strive for objectivity (although they don't always succeed.)
