I just looked this up - the last time Papelbon allowed a run was September 19th. In addition to his perfect October, he also allowed no runs in the entire month of August. But October was far more impressive, not just because it was the post-season, but because he pitched more than his usual one inning in six of the seven post-season games!Another tip o' the hat to Lester, who did a helluva job filling in for Wakefield.
The Sox have done a tremendous job at cultivating young talent to go with their existing stars. Papelbon is 26, Pedroia 24, Ellsbury 24, and Lester only 23!
On the other hand, the Rockies put their hopes in their elderly veteran, Jesus, who turns 2011 this December, making him just two months younger than Julio Franco.
The Red Sox finished with 18 doubles, one off the Series record by the 1946 Cardinals and 1910 Philadelphia Athletics. But the 1946 series went seven games, and 1910 went five games, so no team has ever hit more in a four game series.
