Weekend Box Office, Nov 16-18
Given the time of year, it could be called a disaster. The weekend was about 30% below last year which, in turn, was about 20% below the previous year, so this year is barely more than half of the comparable weekend in 2005.

There was no major bomb. It's just that there is nothing very strong out there. Last year had James Bond, Happy Feet and Borat all putting up good numbers. The year before that had a Harry Potter film putting up monstrous numbers.

The one really positive element was the Coen Brothers film, which took in $20,000 per theater, twice as much as Beowulf. Although only in 148 theaters, it finished seventh for the weekend, (The top five films are all in 3000 or more!)
