And the winner is ... (wait for it) ... Meet The Spartans! I guess that performance explains how these guys can keep making movies. Unlike Uwe Boll's films, theirs draw some people into the theaters. The experts thought Spartans would finish fourth, behind Cloverfield, 27 Dresses and Rambo, with a take between $11 and $12 million. It took in $6.6 million on Friday alone. Of course the weekend is not over yet, but it is shaping up as a two-way fight between Spartans and Rambo. By the way, Meet the Spartans did not succeed in its quest for a perfect zero at RT. There is now one positive review.

Cloverfield is sinking like a stone. It dropped to fourth in total gross, but it only finished that high because it is in 3400 theaters. It finished seventh in the average per theater, and was soundly trounced in that category by Untraceable, a film which didn't get much better reviews (14% positive) than Meet the Spartans.

The only new film with a majority of positive reviews is How She Move, which turned out to have insufficiently broad appeal to flex any box office muiscle.
