Creationist strategy backfires big-time in Florida

The creationists lobbied to have evolution dubbed a "scientific theory" when it is taught in Florida. The Florida Board of Education agreed to do that - and also to teach what the term "scientific theory" means, as follows:

"The scientific definition of a theory is different from the everyday definition, referring not to wild-eyed speculation but to a vast body of observation and testing that confirms a hypothesis so strongly that it might as well be considered fact.

That's not the best part. Before the creationists started lobbying, Florida's official curriculum did not include evolution at all, and now it has been made mandatory.
