There are four new films this week, but none of them is expected to be especially strong:
- 21. A film about blackjack card-counting and the efforts of the casinos to develop effective counter-measures. Based on a non-fiction book. Expected to be #1 with a mediocre $21 million in 2500 theaters.
- Superhero Movie. Yet another genre parody. The good news? This is NOT from the guys who did Date Movie, Epic Movie and Meet the Spartans. Expected to be #3 with a gross in the mid-teens from 2700 theaters.
- Stop-Loss is a drama about a soldier who goes on the lam in lieu of accepting an extension of his military service. Prediction: $4-5 million in 1200 theaters.
- Run Fatboy Run is a Simon Pegg comedy. Prediction: $3-4 million in 1000 theaters.
