Weekend Box Office Results for May 2–4, 2008 - Iron Man kicks ass.

This has to be one of the oddest weeks in history, a week in which the studio analysts can say, "It was one of the best weeks in history. We were down 13% from last year!"

How could both of those statements be true? (1) Iron Man kicked royal ass, not only 30% more than expected, but it brought Made of Honor up with it, presumably from spillover. (2) But even with Iron Man's $100 million opening, it was no match for last year at this time, when Spidey 3 had the single best opening weekend in history. (Iron Man made the top ten, despite getting several million siphoned off by Thursday previews.)
