Top Grossing Movies in a Single Day at the Box Office

The Dark Knight absolutely shatters the record for a single day at the box office.

It took in $66 million Friday. The previous high was less than $60m.

Here is the full recap for the weekend. Mamma Mia took in a respectable nine million, while Space Chimps got lost in the shuffle and barely cleared two million, finishing in seventh place. The top twelve films did very close to a hundred million in a single day, which is amazing because the record for an entire weekend is only a hair above $200m.
