There's no comparison chart today because the experts made four-day predictions. The chart wil be in tomorrow's posts.Tropic Thunder finished first for the third consecutive weekend, not because it generated big numbers, but because it was competing against a slate of turkeys.
Babylon A.D. did the best of the new releases, but failed to reach double figures - a limp second on an anemic weekend.
Traitor finished fifth with 7.9 million, and was the only new film to exceed expectations (and was the only one with good reviews!)
Disaster Movie bombed, finishing in 7th place with $6 million. This film is still holding at 0% positive reviews, but its predecessors ranged from 2% to 6%, yet each one managed to gross more than $35 million. Perhaps this time the spoof franchise has finally exhausted itself.
College performed about as well as you might expect from a typical straight-to-vid which somehow ended up in theaters despite anonymous stars. It finished 15th, despite being shown in 2100 theaters. Prior to this weekend, only five films in history had been in more than 2000 theaters with an average per theater below $1000 on their opening weekend. Now there are six. College had the third-worst weekend in history among films in 2000 or more venues.
Measured per theater, Hamlet 2 did a bit better than College, but that's about like saying Stalin was a nicer guy than Hitler.
