It was a weak period, to say the least. The two new releases which made the top ten finished about 30% below expectations. The other major release finished about 30% below absolute zero. The latter was Delgo, which was in 2160 theaters and took in less than Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi. Here is the all-time list of the lowest averages per theater for all films in 2000 or more theaters.

Records are rarely broken in such a dramatic fashion. They normally descend in increments. What Delgo achieved is equivalent to a slugger hitting 140 homers next year, or a runner flashing through a two minute mile.
