New York Yankees vs. Toronto Blue Jays - Box Score - May 12, 2009 - ESPN

Halladay goes to 7-1 by sinking the Yankees with a complete game five-hitter
Since the beginning of the 2005 season, Halladay is 70-28, a winning percentage over .700. Of course, he was pretty good before that as well. His lifetime winning percentage is .672. Excluding 19th century pitchers, Halladay's winning percentage is the 5th highest of all time among pitchers with 125 wins or more. Two other active pitchers are also in the top five:

  1. Whitey Ford .690
  2. Pedro Martinez .684
  3. Johan Santana .682
  4. Lefty Grove .680
  5. Roy Halladay .672

When you're up there with Lefty Grove and Whitey Ford - that's pretty good company! Halladay's achievement is actually greater than Ford's or Grove's, because those guys consistently pitched for great teams, while the Jays have been a .500 team in the Halladay era. Halladay went 31-11 in 2002 and 2005 combined - and the Jays were below .500 both years!

You may have noticed that three of the guys on the list above are left-handers, so the top two right-handers of all time are still active: Pedro and Halladay. At least I think Pedro is still active. He wants to be, but nobody seems to be interested in signing him, so he may be retired de facto.
