Neanderthals Were Few and Poised for Extinction
"The population hovered at an average of 1,500 females of reproductive age in Europe between 38,000 and 70,000 years ago"

It's no wonder the Neanderthal PD had plenty of time to investigate each case. Still, you'd think they would have been able to solve them sooner. (See link below.)
