Top Grossing Movies in Their 2nd Weekend at the Box Office

Avatar sets the all-time record for the highest gross in a 2nd weekend!

When the estimates turned into final results, Avatar ended up taking the record away from The Dark Knight by a few hundred thousand dollars.

The record for the highest "third weekend" is $45 million, held by the original Spider-Man film. Avatar could take that one as well, if its week-to-week drop is less than 40%. I would not be surprised by that result, since the week-to-week drop between its first two weekends was a mere 1.8%.
