Savage beagles terrorize East End - NYPOST.com

Savage beagles terrorize Long Island

" ... a huge community of feral beagles that roams the woods and fields of eastern Long Island after being abandoned by hunters who used them to track down rabbits. According to local activists, some hunters act like small-time Donald Trumps, firing the dogs that don't do well during the November-to-February hunting season."

We once picked up a stray black Lab that was (we presume) abandoned by hunters. He would have been a bad hunting dog for a variety of reasons. He was sort of sickly, dumber than a stump and deathly afraid of loud noises. He even failed obedience school. He turned out, however, to be a great companion for our kids and a very lovable family pet until I had to put him down about two years ago, at age 13.
