Daily Box Office for Friday, March 19, 2010 - Box Office Mojo

Daily Box Office for Friday, March 19, 2010

Alice won Friday, but it was closer than some expected. Of course, Alice is much more of a Saturday/Sunday kind of movie, so it did step up its game a bit over the weekend. (Some weekend estimates are in, others not.) Alice beat Wimpy Kid $9.8-$7.4 on Friday, but by a much larger margin ($34.5-$21.8) for the weekend. Both films performed approximately as expected.

The Aniston comedy overcame atrocious reviews to take a surprising second place on Friday, but I expect that Wimpy Kid will win second for the entire weekend because it's a stronger offering for family matinees. Nonetheless, the Bounty Hunter will come in with a final number about equal to the Warrior's $20m estimate.

Repo Men was not expected to perform well, and has actually done even worse than expected. Ouch. Its revenues per theater were about a third of those accumulated by Bounty Hunter and Wimpy Kid. The Weekend Warrior thought that this film would gross about $11m for the weekend, but it looks like it will come in about half of that.
