There were probably many gay and bisexual men in Old Hollywood, but in those days the studios had their spin doctors working incessantly to cover it up. Two of Cary Grant's wives accused him of being a homosexual, but he also sued somebody (I think it was Chevy Chase) for joking about it publicly. (I think they settled out of court.)
Grant is shown smoking a pipe on the linked page. Randolph Scott may also have smoked Cary Grant's pipe from time to time, if we believe the following tidbits from Scott's page at Wikipedia:
In a book called "Cary Grant: Grant's Secret Sixth Marriage," Marc Eliot claims Grant had a sexual relationship with Scott after they met on the set of Hot Saturday. In another book, "Hollywood Gays," Boze Hadleigh cites homosexual director George Cukor who allegedly said, "Cary won't talk about it. At most, he'll say they did some wonderful pictures together. But Randolph will admit it – to a friend." In Blackwell's autobiography "From Rags to Bitches," he declared he was a lover of both Grant and Scott. There were always rumors surrounding somebody or another, including Gary Cooper, Monty Clift, Raymond Burr, Tony Perkins, Sal Mineo, Cesar Romero, John Gielgud, Farley Granger, George Grizzard, James Dean, and Richard Chamberlain. Some of those guys came out, others never did and may even have been totally straight.
