Well, I don't know about the money thing, since he's not Irish. He's from Sheffield, which is up there in the same sort of latitude as Liverpool and Manchester, but far from the coast.

But I agree that Sean Bean is pretty cool. I've noted before that his failure to resonate as an international star has always mystified me. He's a big star in the UK, but few Americans even know who Bean is, since his "Sharpe" series never caught on here. We've seen his face, but can't quite remember where. ("Dude, wasn't he the bad double-O in one of those James Bond films? Oh, wait ... he was a hobbit or something, right?")

America has embraced many others with English accents and far less talent and charisma. Maybe his regional accent isn't plummy enough for us? Beats me.
