Only about two movies per year earn that grade. There was another earlier this year, but the A+ didn't translate into megabucks at the Box Office. That was Soul Surfer. That film did, however, score a very high 4.3 multiple (the ratio of total gross to opening weekend gross), presumably on the back of great word-of-mouth.
The relationship between critical accolades and an A+ from moviegoers is not constant. Critics like some audience pleasers, dislike others. (Like Soul Surfer: "There's an amazing true story at the heart of Soul Surfer -- and unfortunately, it's drowned by waves of Hollywood cheese.")
Here are the last four films to score an A+:
Tangled: 89% positive reviews
Toy Story 3: 99%
Soul Surfer: 50%
The Help: 73%
