The Pittsburgh Pirates have set the all-time record for consecutive losing seasons in any major sport.

The Pittsburgh Pirates have clinched their 19th consecutive losing season

Here's the weird part: the Pirates led the NL Central at the start of play on July 20!

They then remembered that they were the Pirates and went on a 16-38 tear, enabling them to resume their rightful place in baseball history.

Not just baseball history - sports history. No major league sports franchise in North America has ever had so many consecutive losing seasons.

Although, in my previous life as an Aztec warrior, I lost the Aztec games for 32 consecutive years, so the Pirates still have something to shoot for. One year I blew a 50 yard lead in the 100 yard dash. Gosh, I really wanted to get my heart ripped from my chest and sacrificed to the gods, as was the privilege of the winner, but I could never quite go all the way.
