It looks like a safe bet to take your kids to The Lorax (PG), which has 74% positive reviews and is expected to take the top spot by grossing more than $40 million in 3600 theaters.
Critics were sharply divided on Project X, a raunchy R-rated comedy, and I personally can't decide whether it would be worthwhile for me to see it. Here are the critical raves and pans:
Cons: (1) "Overall, it's flamboyantly loathsome on every imaginable level, and a great many unimaginable ones besides." (2) "It raised my moral outrage heckles in ways I didn't think possible."
Pros: (1) "Clever, brilliantly shot, and dropdown funny, Project X delivers the raunchy goods in spades." (2) "Be grateful for Project X. It is a ribald romp for those audience members who require its healing qualities."
Based on the above, it is obviously very raunchy. I guess your reaction will depend on whether you crave raunch or loathe it. It will be distributed to a surprisingly large number of theaters (3000), and is expected to take second place with about $20 million, which is pretty decent for an R-rated movie which specifically targets kids too young to get in.
