New Movies In Theaters This Week - Rotten Tomatoes

New Movies In Theaters This Week - Rotten Tomatoes:

There are four films in wide release this week:
The Five-Year Engagement. This is the latest film written by and starring Jason Segal. 2800 theaters. 62% positive reviews. Rated R for "sexual content and language throughout." One reviewer: "There's a good movie in here, maybe even a great one. But it's buried beneath an awful lot of shoulda-been-deleted scenes." Just about every reviewer praised the cast's chemistry. This film is expected to take the box office trophy home this weekend, but with an uninspiring $22M.

The Pirates - Band of Misfits. This is a zany animated PG feature starring Hugh Grant. 3000 theaters. 87% positive reviews. "Droll, delightful...[and] jovial enough to redeem the whole pirate genre, which one might have thought had been tarnished irredeemably by the last two dreadful 'Caribbean' movies." This should finish somewhere between third and seventh, in a cluster of films hovering around $10M.

Safe. Jason Statham as a cage fighter who pisses off the mob. 61% positive reviews. (???? ... Hard to believe.) 2000 theaters. Rated R for strong language and violence. It sounds like a clone of the Crank films. "It boasts an unstoppable, adrenaline-fuelled energy - from street-level chase scenes to shoot outs in hotels, bars and restaurants. Coupled with Statham's gruff machismo, it makes for a surprisingly satisfying slug-fest." This is another one of the films which will take in around $10M and battle for the 3-7 slots.

The Raven. John Cusack as Edgar Allan Poe. Yawn. 2000 theaters. Rated R for violence, torture and brutality. 21% positive reviews. "The story gets increasingly conventional as it goes on, until Poe becomes just another action hero, following an increasingly illogical, National Treasure-esque set of clues through a series of confrontations." This is yet another one of the films which will take in around $10M and battle for the 3-7 slots.
Think Like a Man, now in its second week, is expected to take the #2 spot comfortably, and may even hang on to its current #1, depending on how much enthusiasm audiences can muster for The Five-Year Engagement
