And it was a really frustrating 0-for-8 at that: five strikeouts and a GIDP. The game dropped his batting average by 27 points.
So why is he so happy?
The Orioles ran out of pitchers in the six-hour marathon, so Davis took the mound and pitched two scoreless innings for a win against the Red Sox at Fenway!
The last time a pitcher went 0-for-8 or more, it was perhaps the most famous regular season pitchers' duel of all time. On May 1, 1920, both Leon Cadore and Joe Oeschger pitched 26-inning complete games. Neither guy picked up the W. In that era before stadium lights, the game was finally declared a tie when darkness made conditions unplayable. Cadore went oh-for-ten in that game. (Box score here.)
