There are two films in wide distribution this week:
One is the "Tom Cruise as Rock God" film, Rock of Ages (3400 theaters), which is rated PG-13. That rating alone probably tells you that the film is too tame to truly represent rock to the world, but ... whatever. 44% of the reviews have been positive.
The other is the raunchy new Adam Sandler movie, That's My Boy (3000 theaters), which is a full R for raunchy talk, nudity, crude sexual content, and heavy drug abuse. You know, all the things that make life worth living. As is typical for Sandler's lowbrow movies, the reviews have not been good (17% positive).
They two films are expected to battle it out for second place behind Madagascar, with weekend grosses somewhere between $25 and $31 million.
