New Movies In Theaters This Week- Rotten Tomatoes

New Movies In Theaters This Week - Rotten Tomatoes:
There will be two wide releases this weekend. You probably want to avoid them both and watch Batman (again).

The Watch is a comedy with Ben Stiller, Vince Vaughn and Jonah Hill. Neighborhood watch guys stave off an alien invasion. The critics on record so far have awarded it one of the worst composite scores of the year: an anemic 12% at RT. The reviews are filled with phrases like "run-of-the-mill," "stale," "going-through-the-motions," and "generic." Industry sources think it will ride the popularity of the stars and a solid 3000-theater distro to an opening in the mid-20s before anyone really discovers that it sucks. It will probably finish #2, far behind the Batmeister. The R-rating includes "strong sexual content," but the only nudity comes from an anonymous orgy participant who flashes her boobs briefly.

Step Up Revolution is another urban dance movie from an established franchise. There are not many reviews on file but the ones on record are overwhelmingly negative. As usual, Roger Ebert summed up the situation concisely, "Step Up: Revolution is the fourth of the Step Up movies, a series of unconnected stories that serve as showcases for the kinds of young stars who sincerely hope they'll soon be in better movies." Key facts: 24% positive reviews; 2500 theaters; PG-13 rating. The film is expected to gross somewhere in the vicinity of $10M this weekend. It will battle Ice Age 3 for third place.
