The Washington Post said Mitt Romney won. No equivocation. No ambivalence. Jeez! If the Post said Romney won, it must have been a stomp. A CNN/ORC International poll of 430 people who watched the debate showed 67% thought Romney won, compared to 25% for Obama. I wonder how much this will move the needle. Prior to the debate, 538 had established an 86.1% chance of Obama winning, which represented the President's high water mark to date. Keep an eye on that number, because many (including liberals) feel that Wednesday's debate may well have put Romney back in the game.
(I didn't watch it myself. I had a class. Moreover, I'm sick of the whole process and just want it all to end.)
Reader comment:
As you usually mention Scoop, to choose the best leader of the free world they should just settle it like the old days and have it out in Thunderdome to decide who should lead us, and extra bonus points if they have pipes like Tina Turner.
I know a lot more people would get engaged and would be interested in the political process, I know that for sure.
Scoop's note:
I usually only suggest Thunderdome to decide public feuds between celebrities nobody would miss if they lost: Rosie O'Donnell vs Donald Trump, for example. In the case of Obama and Romney I don't really want the loser to die. I just want them both and all their PACs to start behaving like adults.
But you make a good point. Thunderdome would really stimulate the economy, even if the candidates can't. Imagine the legalized betting. Imagine how much the sponsors would pay. Just about every person in the world with access to a TV would be tuned in to see the candidates fight in Thunderdome. The ad rates would be many times higher than for the Superbowl, and the government could use it for deficit reduction.
