The animated Disney film took in $50 million, far more than expected.
Denzel Washington's Flight also exceeded the estimates by a significant amount. It finished second with $25 million.
That powerful 1-2 punch led the total box office to a 20% increase over the previous week.
(The martial arts film took in $8 million, which was good enough for fourth place.)
