NCAA College Football Scores, Week #14

NCAA College Football Scores, Week 14

The marquee match-up couldn't be much better. Notre Dame, with its massive nationwide following and an undefeated season, will be playing for the national championship against the defending champions.

The second best game will be the Fiesta Bowl which will probably be Kansas State, which gets an automatic BCS spot as Big Twelve champs, versus Oregon. These teams each came close to the national title game.

After that, things are gonna kinda suck.

The Orange Bowl looks like Florida State (automatic bid as ACC champ) vs Louisville (automatic bid as Big East champ). Yawn.

The Rose Bowl will definitely pit Wisconsin, an automatic qualifier as Big 10 champ despite their 4-4 conference record, against Stanford, another automatic qualifier as Pac-12 Champ. Yawn again.

Florida will get an automatic bid based on their #3 rating, which will probably place them in the Sugar Bowl, but who will their opponent be? The conventional wisdom says Oklahoma, but the spoiler is Northern Illinois. The kids from NIU are on tenterhooks until the final results of the BCS standings. They need to finish in the top 16. They were ranked 21st, and four teams above them lost: Texas, Nebraska, UCLA and Kent State. To put it another way: two of the top 16 lost, so there are two slots open in that group. There are three teams vying for those two slots: Boise (winner today), NIU (winner today) and Michigan (idle today). In other words, NIU will probably finish somewhere from 15th to 17th, so their eligibility is going right down to the wire!
