His career in general was mediocre (way too many walks), but what a year he had in 1958! He not only won the Cy Young (and finished second in the MVP voting), but also almost single-handedly won the World Series, a feat which earned him the series MVP. His Yankees were down three games to one when he took over. He won two of the last three games and saved the other one, allowing only one run in those 16 innings against the Braves. He batted in two runs in that stretch, thereby personally outscoring the defending world champs
Although he was only 27 then, that year essentially was his career. He was 8-11 the next year, and would never again win more than 9 games in a season. He would never receive another vote for either Cy Young or MVP.
