New Movies In Theaters June 12 / June 14th
Man of Steel is down to 57% positive reviews after a great start with pre-selected critics. The critical appraisals run the gamut from this:

"Man of Steel is a chill-inducing visual spectacle that is absolutely Herculean in nature with a downright glorious performance by Michael Shannon, an epic score, and extremely intense action."

To this:

"Computer-generated images of inexplicable banality."

Other critical facts: it will be in 4200 theaters, is rated PG-13, and is 2.5 hours long.

It will, of course, be the #1 film over the weekend, but nobody has much of a handle on how well it will do. I suppose $100 million would be a good guess.

The weekend performance of Seth Rogan's "This is the End" (3000 theaters) will be hampered by competition, an R rating, and some siphoning off by Wednesday and Thursday receipts. Given its good reviews (83% positive) and a bit of buzz, it will probably still finish in second place, with a gross in the neighborhood of $20M.

=================================

For those of you who want to see a grown-up movie, Before Midnight, the latest chapter in Linklater's "Before" trilogy, will be in about 900 theaters and will gross somewhere around $3M, thanks to a devoted following and an astronomical score of 97% on Rotten Tomatoes. That promises intelligent, thoughtful perspectives on life and the growth of a relationship

- basically everything you want to avoid in a summer movie!

Well, anyway, Julie Delpy gets nekkid for those of us who get dragged there by women, but are too immature to appreciate the film's insights about the nature of life, marriage, and long-term commitment.
