New Movies In Theaters July 17th and 19th - Rotten Tomatoes
It's a housecleaning weekend. Out with the old and in with four new films in wide distribution plus another in several hundred theaters. It's Van Wilder against himself and Mary-Louise Parker against herself!

Turbo (opened Wednesday): 3800 theaters. PG animated family film featuring Ryan Reynolds. "A garden snail dreams of becoming the fastest snail in the world." Must be better than it sounds, because 66% of the reviews are positive.

The Conjuring: 2900 theaters. "Before there was Amityville, there was Harrisville. "The Conjuring" tells the true story of Ed and Lorraine Warren (Patrick Wilson, Vera Farmiga), world renowned paranormal investigators, who were called to help a family terrorized by a dark presence in a secluded farmhouse. Forced to confront a powerful demonic entity, the Warrens find themselves caught in the most horrifying case of their lives." Rated R. Believe it or not, this thing is running 84% positive at RT, and that's no statistical fluke of small numbers. There are 76 reviews online already. The RT summary is "Extremely well-crafted and gleefully creepy, The Conjuring ratchets up the dread with a series of smartly delivered, terribly effective old-school scares."

RIPD: 2800 theaters. The Dude, and Van Wilder (again!) "headline the 3D supernatural action-adventure R.I.P.D. as two cops dispatched by the otherworldly Rest In Peace Department to protect and serve the living from an increasingly destructive array of souls who refuse to move peacefully to the other side. Veteran sheriff Roy Pulsifer (Bridges) has spent his career with the legendary police force known as R.I.P.D. tracking monstrous spirits who are cleverly disguised as ordinary people." PG-13. There's only one reviewer online so far, and he calls this film, "the worst comic book adaptation since 'Jonah Hex.'"

Red 2: 3000 theaters. Sequel to the "old geezers return to black ops" action comedy. PG-13, 38% positive reviews. Mary-Louise Parker is in this and RIPD.

The Girl Most Likely: 350 theaters. Apparently a really weak PG-13 sitcom-style comedy starring Kristen Wiig. 16% positive reviews.
Box office: The Conjuring is expected to take the weekend with about $30 million.

Turbo is expected to battle Despicable Me 2 and Red 2 for second place with totals in the mid twenties to low thirties.

RIPD should come in around $15M, which will be somewhere between fifth and seventh place, depending on how well Pacific Rim and Grown Ups 2 hold up.

Even Kristen Wiig's mom will not go to see that other thing.
