Producer Albert R 'Cubby' Broccoli called in the Mary Poppins star to discuss replacing Sean Connery in the now iconic role, the actor revealed in an interview with Kevin Pollack.
Van Dyke pointed out his famous appalling English accent, to which Broccoli said: "Oh, that's right - forget it!"

Would have been great . . . the iconic opening sequence of James Bond viewed through a gun barrel . . . the Theme playing . . . and then he trips over a ottoman.
