New Movies In Theaters October 4th - Rotten Tomatoes

New Movies In Theaters October 4th - Rotten Tomatoes

There are two new films in wide nationwide release and four others in limited release.

Wide releases:

Gravity - (3500 theaters) - a PG-13 space thriller starring Sandra Bullock and George Clooney, this flick has been drawing absolute rave reviews from critics (98% positive).

Runner Runner - (3000 theaters, rated R for language and "sexual content") - "It has an impressive cast and an intriguing premise, but Runner Runner wastes them on a bland, haphazardly assembled thriller with very little payoff." (12% positive reviews.)

Limited releases:

Besharam - (217 theaters on Wednesday, unrated; unreviewed) - Bollywood musical dramedy. "Babli (Ranbir Kapoor) is a street smart car mechanic living in a Delhi orphanage. He is charming and lives life to the fullest. He also steals cars to support his orphanage. He has no sense of right or wrong till he unwittingly hurts the love of his life, Tara (Pallavi Sharda) and is chased by cop couple Chulbul Chautala (Rishi Kapoor) and Bulbul Chautala (Neetu Kapoor). Babli realizes that there is no right way of doing the wrong thing. Babli sets out to fix all the wrongs in his life and he continues to be shameless about it." How the hell did this get into 217 theaters? It seems like one of those "East Village, West Hollywood" kind of efforts.

Grace Unplugged - (500 theaters; PG; not pre-screened for critics) - "A talented young singer and aspiring songwriter's Christian faith and family ties are tested when she defies her worship-pastor father and pursues pop-music stardom in GRACE UNPLUGGED, a moving and inspiring new film that explores the true meaning of success. Grace Trey (AJ Michalka) has just turned 18 and aspires to do more than sing in her church's worship band, which is led by her father, Johnny Trey (James Denton), a one-time pop star who gave up his life in secular music when he became a Christian. Grace longs to escape his shadow and make a name for herself singing songs about something other than God, but Johnny warns her that fame is not as glamorous as it looks and reminds her that serving and worshipping God with the talent she's been given is a far more worthwhile goal. "

Parkland (217 theaters, PG-13) - "PARKLAND recounts the chaotic events that occurred in Dallas, Texas on November 22, 1963, the day President John F. Kennedy was assassinated. Written and directed by Peter Landesman and produced by Tom Hanks." Next month is the 50th anniversary of JFK's assassination. (47% positive reviews)

Pulling Strings - (387 theaters; PG; 50% positive reviews, but based on only 2 out of 4) - "Rachel is an intelligent modern day woman constantly on the move. Primarily focused on her career as a diplomatic consul for the U.S. embassy, she's literally lived her life on the move, globetrotting from city to city. Currently working in Mexico City and set to leave for London, Rachel's world turns upside down on the eve of her own goodbye party when she gets drunk and passes out on the street. Saved by Alejandro, a handsome Mariachi singer and single father, Rachel wakes up in his apartment with no recollection of how she got there. Nor does she remember that she rejected his visa the day before, which he desperately needs for his daughter. Romance unexpectedly blossoms between the two, but either sparks or fists will fly after she finds out his secret."
Box Office?:

Gravity is expected to take in $40 million. That's spectacular for October, a month in which no film has ever reached as much as $55 million on its opening weekend.

Runner, Runner may take in $10 million because both Affleck and Timberlake have a solid fan base. Or it may not.
